Ready to take the guesswork out of teaching Photography?
This year, I am building an entire 3 course Photography Curriculum, designed specifically for Career & Technical Education (CTE), photography, graphic design, and media arts classrooms. Built with backwards planning and aligned with National Media Arts Standards, this curriculum walks students from beginner composition skills through technical skills with manual mode, lighting and more using a scaffolded, standards-based approach. This curriculum is also tied directly to my Full Photoshop Curriculum.
Students will learn the foundations of Photography using DSLR cameras through creative, real-world projects that reinforce essential composition skills, manual controls, lighting, storytelling and digital imaging skills.
From understanding how to frame an image for the strongest composition to understanding the mechanics of exposure and white balance, your students will work toward developing portfolio-ready imagery. This curriculum builds the technical and creative confidence students need to succeed in today’s visual media field AND be certification ready!

This course is actively being built within The Digital Media Teacher's Club during the 2026-2027 school year.

In this course, students continue to build on their skills from the first course and begin to expand their working knowledge or how to control light, both natural / available light and commercial / artificial light. This course focuses on career exploration, allowing students to begin to test out different types of Photography pathways while learning how to control any and all light around them as well as build their skills with Photoshop. This course will actively be built within The Digital Media Teacher's Club during the 2027-2028 school year or sooner.
